Universal Credit (UC) is a means-tested benefit for people of working-age. It will affect people in and out of work., however it will not directly affect pensioners. It will replace the following 6 benefits with one single benefit:-
 Income Support
 Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
 Income-related Employment Support Allowance
 Housing Benefit
 Working Tax Credit
 Child Tax Credit

From 16 May 2018 working-age Knowsley residents will be able to claim UC (full service). If your staff receive UC they will be able to work as many hours as they like.—there are no limits as with existing benefits such as Income Support or Working Tax Credits. Other factors that will change in relation to the benefit:-
 It should be simpler – one claim
 It is paid monthly – not weekly or fortnightly
 It is calculated by looking at the household, not the individual
 It is paid to one person in the ‘household’
 You can only apply online
