Drugs & Alcohol Misuse in the Workplace

22 November 2017 >> 08:30 - 11:30 - Suites Hotel

Cross-sector

The misuse of drugs, including alcohol and other substances, can be a serious problem for the individual, their co-workers, the business and, in some cases, the owner(s) of the business.

Alcohol, drugs and other substances have a negative effect on the brain and the body, impairing judgment and concentration and putting the user and their colleagues at risk.  Staff who misuse drugs or alcohol are more likely to be absent, perform poorly and increase the risk of accidents.  These factors weaken an organisation's overall performance and threaten its productivity and reputation.

A person who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the workplace will risk disciplinary action and in some cases prosecution. There are an increasing number of drivers across Merseyside who drive under the influence of drugs. Many of them are driving for work, including driving their own vehicle.  A conviction carries a mandatory minimum disqualification of 12 months, a fine up to £5000 and some lose their job.

The aim of this workshop is to advise employers on their duty of care, employer responsibilities, and the policies and procedures you should have in place to protect your staff and business from the very real threat posed by alcohol and drugs in the workplace.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Directors, Managers, Team Leaders, HR professional, Supervisors, Fleet Managers, Office Managers, Operational Security staff, Workplace Health and Wellbeing Champions
