The Knowsley Foundation - a first for Merseyside - is a new
charitable, independent organisation which brings together private,
public and voluntary sector partners to support social and economic
development in Knowsley.
The Foundation is a partnership between Knowsley Council,
Knowsley Community and Voluntary Services, Knowsley Chamber of
Commerce and Community Foundation for Merseyside, the foundation
will attract different types of funding and match this to local
organisations which can best support local communities.
It will look to attract cash gifts from individual donors and
local businesses, as well as public funding from central government
and social venture companies.
The strap line is "Helping you to ask, helping you to
give"
It is estimated that around £1million will be pledged to the
foundation during its first year.
As well as funding, supporters can also donate their time,
goods, services and expertise to the foundation.
Charitable groups, individuals and organisations seeking support
from the foundation will be able to apply for grants, loans, bonds
and direct investment.
Cllr David Lonergan, Knowsley Council's Cabinet Member for
Regeneration, Economy and Skills said: "We believe The Knowsley
Foundation is nationally unique because of the range of funds it
can attract - everything from private donations to public funding -
and the type of partners involved.
"It will bring many advantages to the borough. It will make it
easier for organisations, which can show that their work makes a
real difference to communities, to seek support and also make it
easier for businesses to give support to these initiatives. Without
the foundation much of this funding would not be attracted to
Knowsley."
Lesley Martin-Wright, Chief Executive Knowsley Chamber of
Commerce, said "The Foundation is the partnering of the private,
public and social sectors and will be working more closely to drive
support to our communities and in turn improve the quality of life
for Knowsley residents."
Cathy Elliot, Chief Executive, Community Foundations for
Merseyside and Lancashire, said: "We aim to connect donors and
organisations to Knowsley's communities. Working with donors who
are passionate and care about Knowsley, we will offer a number of
ways for them to give and support future generations in the
borough."

Representatives from local not-for-profit training provider,
Knowsley START, will speak at the launch about the benefits of
receiving vital charitable funding to boost their work in the
Knowsley area.
