Knowsley Chamber's 24th Annual General Meeting held at Knowsley
Hall on 12 December 2013.
The President, Lord Derby, welcome nearly 100 members of the
Chamber to the AGM. CEO, Lesley Martin-Wright, said "The
Chamber's role is to create a dynamic environment for business,
instil greater confidence, encourage more businesses to grasp
opportunities, and thereby position Knowsley as a strong driver for
accelerated regional growth. In this regard, over the last 12
months Knowsley Chamber has been very active in helping to model
the region's economic regeneration agenda. Locally we
sit on a number of strategic groups and working parties helping to
shape local growth strategies, and using our voice to articulate
key messages from the private sector.
We have some of the biggest exporters based in the borough of
Knowsley, and whilst large businesses are certainly making their
mark in Europe and further afield, small to medium size companies
(2-249 employees) remain the backbone of the local economy.
We have also enjoyed some considerable successes in the last 12
months for the owner/managed sector; they too are seizing new
opportunities and developing new markets.
Once again I am delighted to report that we are able to offer
the Working Well programme and Active Travel support to the
business community. Our Knowsley Apprentice has taken on a
full-time permanent post within the Chamber. Our B2B
platforms now include Women in Business, The Environment Network,
the Visitor Economy Network, and a newly created Business
Watch. These networks are not merely talking shops, but
interactive opportunities for businesses to learn from each other's
experiences, and to work in partnership".
