Every 15 minutes someone in the UK dies of lung cancer. A mum, dad, child, grandparent, colleague, friend, husband, wife. Gone.
Every year, over 46,000 people will hear the words “You have lung cancer”. And around 36,000 families will hear “Sorry for your loss”. Lung cancer is the biggest cancer killer. It takes the lives of more people than breast, prostate and pancreatic cancers combined and kills more women than breast and ovarian cancers combined.
It is a disease which, despite what many believe, can affect anyone – men and women, young and old, smoker and non-smoker. Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only charity in the UK solely dedicated to supporting everyone affected.
It is our mission to ensure everyone diagnosed with lung cancer can live well for as long as possible, and we are achieving this in numerous ways – through our ongoing commitment to early detection research, to ensuring patients with incurable lung cancer have access to life-lengthening treatments.
We provide practical and emotional support to everyone affected, as well as offering varies preventative programmes to minimise the risk of lung cancer for future generations.
Despite being the UK’s biggest cancer killer, there remains a real lack of awareness around the disease and its symptoms. As a result, there are many dangerous and unfair misconceptions and attitudes around the disease, including who it can affect.
Over recent years, our awareness campaigns have challenged the attitudes around lung cancer, confronted the fears around prognosis and death, and highlighted that it can affect anyone.
Because if you have lungs, you can get lung cancer.
You can help us improve the lives of thousands of people. People like you. From volunteering to donations, signing up for a challenging or sponsoring one of our fundraising events, you can make a difference to people living with lung cancer and keep more families together for longer.
