Knowsley Disability Concern (KDC) is a small Charity delivering a BIG impact for disabled people in Knowsley. Originally established in 1977, KDC works to enable people to live independently and have choice and control over their lives. Our services are constantly evolving and we make sure they are designed and developed in partnership with people who need and use them.
KDC helps those needing care and support to understand the wide range of choices available to them and supports more than 800 local residents use direct payments to manage their personal budget and arrange their own care and support services. We also deliver a managed account and banking service for around 700 people who are unable to operate their own direct payments.
For those who choose to use their personal budgets to employ a personal care assistant, KDC offers a payroll processing service through its trading subsidiary, Your Payroll. We are currently enabling around 900 people to comply with their legal duties and responsibilities for payroll, tax and pensions. Any profit that is made by Your Payroll is gifted to the Charity and used towards delivering a variety of free support for local people.
Such support includes a range of free development activities to help adults with learning difficulties develop skills, increase confidence and improve their independence. All workshops, learning courses, social activities and other sessions are hosted in community locations across the borough and tailored to individual needs. Over 150 local people have already benefited from our learning and development courses and we are currently enrolling for the next intake.
We are excited to announce the launch, in September, of a new accredited learning programme aimed at building core Maths and English skills for people to gain a recognised qualification and improve their chances of securing paid employment.
