Woodlands Hospice was set up as a direct response to the needs of people living with cancer and other terminal illnesses and has had wide support from across the local communities we serve.

We provide hospice care, for the people of North Liverpool, South Sefton and Kirkby and are committed to delivering the best possible practice of Specialist Palliative Care for people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses with complex needs. The hospice honours people’s right to dignity and respect at whatever stage of their illness by improving the quality of life for patients and their families.

Our inpatient unit has fifteen single en-suite rooms for patients with patio doors allowing entry to beautiful gardens which are looked after by volunteers. We do our best to make our hospice as comfortable as possible and to create a ‘homely’ environment where patients and families can relax and spend quality time together.

As well as our inpatient unit, we also have a range of specialist outpatient services ran from our Well-being and Support Centre which include a Lymphedema Service, Family Support, Therapy Services and an Advance Care Planning service for patients and families. The staff and volunteers within these teams aim to support people to lead as full and independent a life as possible as well as giving people the opportunity to meet other people who may be facing similar experiences in a caring and friendly environment.

Our Family Support team will also spend time with loved ones of patients, including young children to assist them through pre and post bereavement. This service is going from strength to strength and we now have a children’s ‘Pavillion’ out in our garden which gives them their own space to come to terms with their emotions.

All our care is provided free of charge and this extends to the family of patients so we do depend upon the generosity of those in the local community. It costs us approximately £3,500 each day to continue to provide these vital services to our community.
