Deal confirmed for Kirkby town centre

Knowsley Council has today confirmed that a deal with St Modwen has been agreed to purchase their assets in Kirkby town centre. This means that the redevelopment of the town centre will now be delivered through the Council.

The priority is to deliver the retail development promised by the retail sector and the Council isn’t “starting from scratch” as planning approvals are secured, highways improvements delivered, the site is “construction ready”, and a contractor is in place so it expected that construction can start as soon as possible.  Home Bargains and KFC also remain committed to the scheme.

In addition to the retail development, the Council will also deliver a cinema development with an operator secured and other restaurant operators expressing an interest in being part of this exciting development.

Plans are also under way for the Council to purchase the Knowsley Community College site on Cherryfield Drive, with the College confirming that they remain committed to Kirkby and they are looking to relocate into the heart of the town centre.

These are exciting times for Kirkby and further updates will be available on www.knowsleynews.co.uk as the redevelopment progresses.
