Encouraging school attendance now, could help reduce absenteeism in our businesses in the future

Regular school attendance is an important part of giving children the best possible start in life. The aim should be to attend 100% of the time. Students who miss school frequently, can fall behind with their work and do less well in exams.

Students who don’t develop the habits associated with good attendance in the early years will find it difficult to develop them as adults. Our Children need to be aware that good attendance also shows potential employers that a young person is reliable.

If children do not attend school regularly they may:

  • Struggle to keep up with school work. In a busy school day it is difficult for schools to find the extra time to help a child catch up.
  • Miss out on the social side of school life. Poor attendance can affect children’s ability to make and keep friendships; a vital part of growing up.

Did you know? Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. It is estimated that half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school. A good start in September can lead to a good year.

Did you know? If your child achieves 90% attendance, that still means that they have missed out on a massive 4 weeks of education during that year.

Encourage 100% school attendance across Knowsley. Let’s give our kids the best possible chance to succeed. Encourage your employees to get behind the campaign this year, download a poster for your workplace here… SCHOOL ATTENDANCE POSTERS
