The Forshaw Group’s staff reached new heights in charity challenge for the Owen McVeigh Foundation

As a keen supporter of local charities, The Forshaw Group is proud to announce the fundraising efforts of one of its employees, who is helping to make a difference to children affected by cancer, and their families.

Joe Chellew, a building surveyor at The Forshaw Group, teamed up with his girlfriend Mollie Garster and her relations Helen and Mark Doran, to climb Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis in Scotland, on Saturday 8 May, to raise funds for the Owen McVeigh Foundation.

The Owen McVeigh Foundation was set up in memory of Owen McVeigh, who was just 11 years old when he sadly passed away, shortly after being diagnosed with leukaemia. The aim of the charity is to raise funds to enrich the lives of local children who are battling cancer, as well as offering support to their families at a difficult time. The charity also helps to provide fun experiences and occasions for these families to look forward to and make special memories together.

Joe and his team had been in training for the past few months in preparation for the challenge, having previously climbed Mount Snowdon in North Wales and The Old Man of Coniston in the Lake District.

The climb also commemorated Mark Doran’s father Harry and aunt Jessie, who both sadly passed away within weeks of each other in 2020. It coincided with what would have been Jessie’s 80th birthday, and acted as a fun way to commemorate her own ascent of Ben Nevis 30 years earlier.

The family wanted to take this opportunity to give something back and support a charity which they all love. Commenting on the climb, Joe said: “It has been a goal of mine to visit Scotland and climb Ben Nevis for many years, and to do this with my loved ones for such a worthy cause made reaching the summit even more special.”
