Knowsley Business Awarded Contract on The Shakespeare North Playhouse

Work has now commenced on the highly anticipated Shakespeare North Playhouse, and local businesses are already beginning to reap the benefits of this prestigious development.

We are pleased to announce that Huyton based Fieldway Group Ltd is one of the first contractors to be successful in securing the Temporary Electrics contract with Kier.

Keen to maximise on the opportunities for the business, Company Director Tony Carden attended the Shakespeare supplier event facilitated by the Knowsley Growth Hub. Tony said “We have worked for Kier previously but the contracts have always been further afield so we really benefited from meeting with Kier regional representatives – Neil Carson (Supply Chain Manager) and Sheryl Moore (CSR Manager). Both Neil and Sheryl highlighted the importance of social and inclusive value and having the opportunity to have one-to-one discussion helped us to further reflect on the positive social value elements already embedded within our business.”

All Fieldway staff are local residents, and over the last ten years the company has recruited 36% of its staff via the Knowsley Apprentice Programme. They currently employ 5 apprentices, one of which will be assigned to The Shakespeare North Playhouse.

Acknowledging that Fieldway did not require support with apprenticeship training, Sheryl Moore ensured two members of staff – Jamie McDonald and Ellie Carden are to benefit from ILM Leadership Training.

Neil Carson, Supply Chain Manager for Kier said “From our initial appointment, we have worked collaboratively with Knowsley Council and other key stakeholders involved in the project to open up tendering opportunities to local SME’s based within Knowsley and the wider city region. We recognise the benefits appointing local SME’s brings to the local economy and community and supporting the Knowsley Pound is a key driver on the Shakespeare North project. Fieldway are a growing Knowsley business, employing local people and have a proven track record of supporting apprentices via the Knowsley Works team. All of these factors played a major part in Fieldway securing this package”.

Tony Carden continued “We are really proud to be part of this major investment in Knowsley. The Shakespeare North Playhouse will be a real asset to local Prescotians, and the wider community in the city region. Most importantly it’s fantastic to win work locally and we recognise the positive impact this will have on our employees and local supply chain.”

Cllr Brennan, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development said “I am delighted that Fieldway have been successful in securing this contract, it’s great to see local companies being part of this amazing project. The Shakespeare North Playhouse will be a major new asset for Knowsley and the wider region and as part of the construction contract with Kier, there will be more opportunities for local companies to tender for work and to be involved in this one off construction.  If any local businesses want to find out more, they should get in touch with our Knowsley Growth Hub Team who can provide advice and support.”
