New partnership in Knowsley secures major investment from Big Lottery Community Fund

January 2020 sees the launch of ‘A Good Life’ – an ambitious new project provided by Knowsley Disability Concern (KDC), in partnership with Knowsley Pensioners Advocacy & Information Service (KPAIS); Sight and Mind; and Tailored Advice Services in the Community (TASC).

The Project will provide wrap-around, personalised support for adults in Knowsley who are disadvantaged for any reason, be it poverty, disability, age or other circumstances which prevent them from having ‘a good life’.

A Good Life will provide help for people struggling with issues, including, but not limited to, benefits and money matters; disability; dementia; anxiety and depression, social isolation and loneliness and general health and wellbeing.

A Good Life aims to help Knowsley be a place where all people are included, get the support they need, when they need it, and have the knowledge and skills to be self-supportive and resilient, relying less on health and social care services.

The partners clearly see the stresses on the health and social care system and the ongoing increased demand. A Good Life will provide services that enable people to either find faster and more meaningful resolutions before the need for statutory services or get more out of the support and services they are already accessing. The Project will use the Knowsley Better Together approach and work in partnership with individuals, their families, local provider organisations, voluntary groups and statutory services to deliver successful interventions.

Knowsley Disability Concern is a small community based charity operating in Knowsley and the surrounding boroughs since 1977. We support disabled people, adults with learning difficulties and those living with long term conditions to have choice, control and independence through a variety of services, projects and community education and development programmes.

Joyce Greaves, KDC’s CEO said “This funding will make a massive difference in the lives of so many people who need help. We are proud to be leading this new partnership, which combines a wealth of specialist advice, support and practical help together with years of experience working with the people of Knowsley.
