Telephone support service for individuals bereaved by Covid-19

Local Merseyside social care charity Caring Connections has been providing support to bereaved people for over 3 years. This week with the help of Liverpool City Region Cares Funding the charity has launched a telephone support service for individuals bereaved by Covid-19.

The service offers telephone based emotional / psychological support from professional therapists. The service is available across the Liverpool City Region to individuals from Liverpool, Wirral, Sefton, St Helens, Knowsley and Halton.

Paul Growney CEO of Caring Connections, said: “As a charity whom works both in social care and bereavement support, we are very passionate and experienced in supporting people and families through the grief of bereavement. We have specialised in delivering support for those bereaved through suicide which is a very complex grief process due to the very nature of death. We have seen similar issues with Covid deaths due to issues about people unable to visit family members who are dying, fear, anxiety and a range of problems around funerals this inspired us to develop this new service. This service has been set up to provide a support mechanism to those people and families who have lost loved ones to Covid aiming to help ease their emotional distress and improve their wellbeing.”

The service is free and people are encouraged to self-refer, all individuals need to do is contact 01512892761 or email their name and contact details to admin@caringconnections.org.uk and a member of the team will be in touch to provide support.

It has to be stressed this is not a crisis line such as the support Samaritans offer this is a service exclusively supporting people who have been bereaved.
