The Forshaw Group marches to Armed Forces Covenant Silver Award success

The Forshaw Group is delighted to announce it has been awarded the Silver Armed Forces Covenant Award status.

Part of the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), this nationally recognised scheme encourages employers to support defence services and inspire others to do the same. It operates a three-tier approach of bronze, silver and gold awards, recognising different levels of commitment provided by employers. This allows the Ministry of Defence to publicly thank and honour those organisations for their support.

The Forshaw Group is one of 36 organisations to be awarded across the North West this year, recognising the company’s commitment to not only supporting the Armed Forces Covenant and community by providing new career opportunities for serving and former members of the Armed Forces community, but also demonstrating flexibility towards training and employing Reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.

The Forshaw Group was initially awarded Bronze, with managing director Liam Hanlon attending the awards ceremony in March 2020 just before the pandemic. This was hosted by Commodore Phil Waterhouse ADC, Naval Commander for Northern England and the Isle of Man, on board the new Royal Navy Aircraft Carrier HMS Prince of Wales, docked in Liverpool.

At the Bronze level, employers are recognised  for stating their intent to support Defence, while The Forshaw Group’s new Silver level recognises how it actively demonstrates its support at a local and regional level. At the highest national level, the Gold award recognise those who have become advocates.

Speaking of The Forshaw Group’s Silver accreditation, Janice Cox, Regional Employer Engagement Director (Merseyside, Cheshire & Isle of Man) for The Reserve Forces’ & Cadets’ Association for the North West of England & the Isle of Man, said: “Huge congratulations to The Forshaw Group on being awarded Silver. This is a great achievement and really demonstrates its commitment to the armed forces. It is very much deserved and I am proud to be associated with you!”

Managing director of The Forshaw Group, Liam Hanlon, commented: “We incredibly are proud to support our Armed Forces community. As a former Royal Marines Reservist and an active member of the Royal Marines Association and the Special Boat Service Association, this has ensured that The Forshaw Group is committed to supporting veterans.

“We strive to provide apprenticeship opportunities, utilising their existing skills and adapting them for trades. We are now committed to the attainment of the Gold Award status, providing the very best apprenticeships, training, and roles for our ex-service men and women.”
