The Road to ‘Net Zero’ – An invitation

In the 2019 government amended the Climate Change Act committing the UK to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 100% of 1990 levels (net zero) by 2050.

In May 2019 Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram declared a ‘Climate Emergency’. Contained within the ‘Climate Emergency Declaration’ were a number of challenging milestones on the road to net zero locally including :-

‘To deliver a network of at least eight zero-carbon refuelling stations (hydrogen and electric charging) across the city region by 2025’

With both political and public attention increasingly focused upon the global climate emergency the transition to Ultra-Low and Zero Emission Vehicles is underway and will continue to gather momentum over the coming years as the sale of conventional petrol and diesel vehicles cease in 2040. However, without a viable network of zero carbon refuelling stations the uptake of zero emission vehicles will be frustrated.

The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority are, therefore, holding a series of workshops specifically to meet with distribution companies and fleet operators to firstly, outline the initial plans for a network of zero carbon refuelling stations but more importantly to better understand the needs of the logistics sector and to listen to the views of companies most likely to be impacted by the transitions to net zero transportation.

Attendance at a workshop is an opportunity for you to make your views known and shape the roll out of zero-carbon refuelling stations across the Liverpool City Region.
