The US, and Great Britain and Ireland are going head to head at the 47th Walker Cup, hosted this year at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club!
Tickets are selling fast for the weekend, being staged at Hoylake for the first time since 1983.
Known as the ‘Amateur Ryder Cup’, the Walker Cup has seen the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Paul Casey, to name a few. Add to that mix, of course, The Golden Bear – Jack Nicklaus, and you can understand the calibre of golf being brought back to Hoylake… It’s your chance to see the stars of tomorrow!
The Walker Cup is a biennial amateur team competition between 10-man sides composed of male players from Great Britain and Ireland and the USA. It is played over two days with 18 singles matches (eight on Saturday and 10 on Sunday) and eight foursomes matches (four each day). The USA leads the overall series 36-9-1.
GB&I will be bidding to win back the historic trophy after a 19-7 defeat to the USA at The Los Angeles Country Club last year. The USA will be looking for a first win on this side of the Atlantic since 2007 when the Americans posted a 12½-11½ victory at Royal County Down in Northern Ireland.
Fans will be able to attend the match for as little as £40 for an Adult Weekend Ticket and £25 for a Daily Ticket, while families are also being encouraged to attend with children under the age of 16 being admitted free of charge and reduced-price tickets available for those aged 16-24 years old.
