Visitors to Acorn Farm have plenty to look forward to this winter, with adorable new animal arrivals, festive family events, gardening inspiration and exciting plans for the future all helping to make it a season to remember.
New Life on the Farm
The farm has welcomed several new additions in recent months. In August, bantam hen Sophie and the farm’s newest silky cockerel became proud parents to six fluffy Bantam x Silky chicks. The young birds have quickly become favourites among visitors thanks to their distinctive feathery feet and tufted heads.
The farm has also celebrated the arrival of several quail chicks, hatched from eggs in the onsite incubator at the beginning of October. Now growing rapidly, the energetic birds can be found in the barn opposite the playground, where visitors are encouraged to stop by and say hello.
Winter Colour at the Garden Centre
The farm’s garden centre continues to offer a wide selection of seasonal plants. Visitors can browse winter bedding favourites including pansies, violas, cyclamen and wallflowers, alongside ready-made hanging baskets for those looking to add an instant splash of colour to their gardens.
Festive Fun for All the Family
The farm recently hosted its annual Halloween Fun Day on 30 October, featuring a haunted house, fancy dress competition, games and prizes for visitors of all ages.
Looking ahead, festive celebrations will continue with the annual Christmas Markets taking place on 13 December. The event provides an opportunity to support local and small businesses while finding unique Christmas gifts from a variety of stallholders.
Adding to the festive spirit, Mr and Mrs Claus, accompanied by their elves, will be making a special appearance at Santa’s Grotto on 12 and 13 December, bringing plenty of Christmas magic and gift-giving fun for young visitors.
Hands-On Animal Experiences
Animal lovers can enjoy the farm’s popular small animal petting sessions, available every weekend, bank holiday and throughout school holidays. The sessions provide opportunities to get up close to a variety of animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, rats and pygmy goats, creating memorable experiences for visitors of all ages.
Supporting the Farm’s Future
As part of its ongoing development, Acorn Farm is currently fundraising for a new visitor hub. The proposed upgrade will replace facilities dating back to the farm’s opening in 1985 and aims to improve the visitor experience while ensuring the charity can continue offering affordable family days out. Visitors are encouraged to support the appeal through donations.
More Than Just a Day Out
Many visitors may not realise that the farm also offers children’s birthday party packages. Families can hire the function room, arrange private petting sessions, enjoy horse rides around the arena and dine in the onsite café, creating a full day of entertainment and celebration.
Thanking Animal Sponsors
The farm has also recognised several generous animal sponsors this winter. Annie the sheep is helping celebrate Alan Drew’s 60th birthday through a special sponsorship, while the Harthen-Wallace family have supported pet rat Pickle. Pygmy goat mix Dino has also received sponsorship from Myles Kitcher. Animal sponsorship packages start from £20 and include free entry to the farm, a personalised certificate and a thank-you plaque.
With new animal arrivals, seasonal events, hands-on experiences and ambitious plans for the future, Acorn Farm continues to provide a welcoming destination for families throughout the winter months and beyond.
