At the Deafness Resource Centre, we are a dedicated charity working to improve the lives of D/deaf individuals and their families across St Helens, Halton, and Knowsley. Through our wide range of support services, we empower D/deaf people to live with greater independence, inclusion, and confidence.

Our Children and Family Team also extends support to families throughout the Liverpool City Region, ensuring that children who are D/deaf or hard of hearing—and their loved ones—receive the care, guidance, and resources they need.

Equipment Service – Supporting Independent Living

One of our most valued services is the Equipment Service, which provides access to Environmental Aids—specialist devices designed to support D/deaf individuals in their everyday lives, whether at home, at work, or out in the community.

What Are Environmental Aids?

Environmental Aids are devices that replace auditory cues with visual or vibrating alerts. They are tailored to support independence and safety by making daily tasks more accessible for D/deaf people.

Types of Equipment We Offer

Our recommendations are always based on your personal needs, but some examples of the equipment we provide include:

  • Flashing doorbells – so you never miss a visitor at your door
  • Loop systems – to enhance your ability to hear conversations, TV, or public announcements

We offer a range of solutions that can make your environment more responsive to your communication needs.

How to Access the Equipment

If you live in St Helens, Halton, or Knowsley, you may be eligible to access our Equipment Service. The process begins with a needs assessment, helping us determine the right tools to support your lifestyle.

Can’t make it to our centres at the Deafness Resource Centre or Halton Sensory Services? No problem—we can arrange a home appointment to ensure you still receive the support you need.
