Leadership in professional services is rarely static. It requires resilience, clarity of direction, and the ability to adapt quickly to shifting economic and regulatory landscapes.

Following the merger of two long established firms in 2024, Tracy Morgan has been guiding JR Levins through a period of transformation and growth.

We spoke with Tracy about leadership in uncertain times, building culture after merger, and what matters most when running a modern law firm within a local business community.

  1. Briefly describe your role as ManagingPartnerand the main duties of your position.

My role is to manage the firm on behalf of the partners, who remain active legal practitioners. JR Levins is still a relatively new business following the merger of Levins Law and Jones Robertson Solicitors in November 2024. Although each firm had almost 40 years of history behind them, bringing the two teams together created a completely fresh challenge.

As Managing Partner, I’m responsible for strategic leadership, operational management and financial oversight. A large part of my role is ensuring that daytoday operations run smoothly so that our lawyers can focus entirely on legal work and client service. We are in an exciting phase of development postmerger, and it’s my job to bring clarity to our business strategy, longterm vision and growth plans.

  1. What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your role?

The biggest challenge is the responsibility. As Managing Partner, the responsibility ultimately sits with me and that pressure can be significant. That includes managing financial stability, adapting to political or economic changes and ensuring staff wellbeing.

The conveyancing market in particular can shift quickly with things like interest rate changes or stamp duty reforms, so we must stay agile and ready to pivot. Running a modern law firm in uncertain times requires constant awareness and adaptability.

However, the rewards more than make up for it. I get to help shape the culture, vision and direction of the firm. It’s incredibly fulfilling to steer JR Levins through a period of growth and watch the team develop together. Seeing the firm strengthen after the merger, and knowing I’ve played a part in that, is something I’m really proud of.

  1. What aspects of the firm are you most proud of?

Without question, our staff. The dedication, compassion and professionalism they show every day is exceptional. They care deeply about the people we represent and consistently go above and beyond to achieve the best outcomes for our clients.

I’m also proud of the new identity we’re building postmerger. We employ more than 40 local people and have strong roots in the communities we serve. Bringing together two respected, longestablished businesses and emerging stronger together has been a huge milestone.

  1. 4. What advice would you give your younger self who was just starting out in her career?

The responsibility can be significant, but I’ve learned that strong leadership means standing your ground, trusting your judgment, and staying rooted in your values. In this role, you quickly realise that what truly matters is the people around you and their wellbeing, confidence, and ability to thrive. Prioritising a supportive, happy team is the foundation of a strong firm.

If I could speak to my younger self, I’d tell her to back herself more boldly. To trust her instincts, even when the room feels intimidating. The legal profession is demanding and fastpaced, but perseverance and selfbelief carry you through. You don’t need to have every step mapped out! Careers grow, evolve and take surprising turns, and some of the greatest growth comes during the most challenging moments.

Above all, I’d tell her to stay true to who she is. Leading with integrity, kindness and purpose will take you further than trying to fit a mould. Values like transparency, empathy and community focus matter just as much as technical expertise, and they shape the kind of leader, colleague and professional you become.

As JR Levins continues to evolve, Tracy’s leadership approach remains grounded in clarity, accountability and people first values. In a business landscape that is constantly shifting, her focus on long term thinking and community connection reflects the wider spirit of the Knowsley business community. For Tracy, sustainable growth is not just about expansion, but about building a firm that supports its team, serves its clients with integrity, and contributes positively to the region it calls home.
