SGD Fire Protection Ltd is celebrating its fourth anniversary this May, marking another major milestone in what has been a remarkable period of growth, industry recognition and community impact for the Liverpool-based passive fire protection specialist.
Founded by Managing Director Shaun Davidson in 2022, the business has continued to go from strength to strength over the past four years, with the last 12 months proving transformational for the company. Over the past year alone, SGD Fire Protection has recorded a 48% increase in turnover, expanded operations by moving into new premises in Huyton, Liverpool, and received widespread industry recognition through numerous award nominations and accolades.
Among its most notable achievements, the company was crowned Micro Business of the Year at the Knowsley Business Awards, recognising both its commercial success and commitment to supporting local communities. SGD Fire Protection was also highly commended at the IFSM Awards and shortlisted for several major industry honours, further cementing its growing reputation within the fire protection and construction sectors. One of the company’s proudest moments came in April this year when it won Corporate Social Responsibility of the Year at the Sunday Express Construction and Property Awards, recognition of SGD’s continued commitment to creating meaningful impact beyond the workplace.
After setting a social value target of £100,000 in 2025, the company delivered more than £1.6 million in measurable social value impact through charitable initiatives, community partnerships, sponsorships, volunteering and local investment. As part of its continued commitment to giving back, SGD Fire Protection also recently launched the SGD Foundation – a major new initiative created to support Community Interest Companies (CICs), charities and grassroots projects across Knowsley and the wider Liverpool City Region. The Foundation has been established to provide funding opportunities, partnerships and practical support to organisations delivering meaningful change within local communities, particularly those that may struggle to access traditional funding streams. Building on SGD’s already strong track record of charitable giving and local involvement, the Foundation formalises the company’s long-term commitment to investing in people, projects and ideas that strengthen communities from the ground up. Working in partnership with the Community Foundation for Merseyside, the SGD Foundation will focus on supporting initiatives tackling deprivation, improving wellbeing, supporting young people and helping community-led organisations create sustainable, long-term impact. The launch of the Foundation forms part of SGD’s wider approach to corporate social responsibility — focusing not simply on short-term charitable donations, but on creating lasting change through meaningful partnerships and investment.
In addition to the above, in early 2026, SGD partnered with Prescot-based Evolving Mindset, where SGD has committed £27,000 over three years to help establish a dedicated Youth Counselling Studio in Knowsley. The initiative will provide free, accessible mental health support for young people and adults across the borough, creating a vital service that would not exist without sustained community backing. The partnership reflects SGD’s commitment to addressing real social challenges within local communities and investing in projects that deliver genuine, long-term benefits.
Speaking on the company’s fourth anniversary, Managing Director Shaun Davidson said:
“Celebrating four years of SGD Fire Protection is a really proud moment for me personally and for everyone involved in the business. What we’ve achieved in a relatively short space of time has only been possible because of the people around us; our team, our clients, our partners and the local community that has supported us from day one.
This last year has been massive for the business. We’ve grown significantly, moved into new premises, received national recognition through awards and launched the SGD Foundation which is something that means a huge amount to me personally. The Foundation is about creating real opportunities, supporting genuine causes across Knowsley and making a difference where it actually matters. To have generated more than £1.6 million in social value impact already is incredible, but for us this is only the beginning.
Anyone who knows me knows I’ve never been motivated purely by money. I grew up in a council house and I’m proud of where I come from. I was fortunate enough to build a career doing something I genuinely love, and with that comes a responsibility to give something back.
We’ve got big ambitions for the future – not just as a business, but in the impact we can continue making within our industry and our communities.”
As SGD Fire Protection enters its fifth year, the company says it remains focused on innovation, sustainable growth and continuing to deliver high-quality passive fire protection solutions across the UK while maintaining its strong commitment to social value, community impact and responsible business leadership.
