At SolidTek and DosaFil, our charitable focus is deeply personal. Among the few causes we champion, we are proud to now support Military vs Cancer, a remarkable charity dedicated to easing the burden of cancer on the armed forces community (past and present) and their families.

The connection began with a simple moment: our Managing Director, Steve Crick, sparked a conversation with a client proudly wearing a “Military vs Cancer” polo shirt. What followed was a profound discovery of a charity whose mission resonated immediately with Steve’s own family history and values. After speaking to David Bathgate, the charity’s founder and Chairman, it became clear—this was a cause we had to support.

What Military vs Cancer Does

The Military vs Cancer charity focus is on alleviating the effects of cancer for Military personnel past and present, as well as their immediate families. They support serving personnel, veterans, and their families as they face one of life’s toughest battles. Every day, members of our Armed Forces show courage, resilience, and selflessness. When cancer enters their lives, they deserve the same unwavering support in return — from all of us.

With donations from businesses and individuals, a multitude of charity events, and their online shop selling branded items such as rugby shirts, polo shirts, caps, and more, these essential funds support military personnel in the following ways:

• Additional family / nursing care funding.

• Travel costs for treatment, including hotel stays for family members.
• Home adaptations.
• Respite breaks.
• Memory making trips.
• Special experiences, especially for those with a terminal diagnosis.

• Peer group / community support for serving forces members and their families

The charity even has a special feature on their website called “Buy me a Coffee.” By simply scanning a QR code (shown below), you can choose to donate instead of buying your usual latte that day. It’s a gentle reminder that something as small as the price of a coffee can create a big impact. Imagine the difference your coffee money could make for this charity and all the people they support—it’s a simple way to spread kindness and hope.

A Personal Commitment

Steve Crick said: “Learning about their work, and hearing David’s drive firsthand, inspired us at SolidTek and DosaFil to commit to a monthly donation. I have the utmost respect for the forces and what they do. I’m proud to say that I had Great-Grandfathers and Grandfathers who served in the military, and my Father served in the Royal Navy, and there’s no-one I know who hasn’t had a friend or family affected by cancer and it’s a cause close to us all.”

Further reflecting our respect for the armed forces, SolidTek and DosaFil proudly hold the Armed Forces Covenant Silver Award, affirming our commitment to ensure that service personnel and reservists are fully supported within our recruitment and workplace policies.

David Bathgate is the founder of Military vs Cancer and the drive that keeps it on the right trajectory. He Joined the Royal Navy in 1990 and achieved the rank of Warrant Officer 1. David has served on HMS Renown, HMS Resolution, HMS Vigilant, HMS Vengeance and HMS Victorious, the skills and friends he has developed throughout his career have enabled him to grow Military vs Cancer from the ground up.
