TCD Energy is urging Knowsley Chamber members in manufacturing and materials based sectors to review their eligibility for the British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme (BICS), one of the most significant electricity cost relief initiatives the UK has introduced in recent years.

BICS provides eligible manufacturers with exemptions from three major electricity policy costs: the Renewables Obligation (RO), Feed‑in Tariffs (FiT) and the Capacity Market (CM). For many businesses, this could equate to around 25% off their electricity bill, alongside a one‑off cash payment in 2027.

More than 10,000 UK manufacturers are expected to benefit, with potential savings of £35–£40 per eligible MWh. This is not a minor discount, but a structural shift in how electricity costs are applied, making it a vital opportunity for energy‑intensive organisations.

A wide range of sectors may qualify, including:

  • Fabricated metals & metal treatment
  • Plastics manufacturing (injection moulding, extrusion, thermoforming)
  • Precision engineering & machining
  • Electrical equipment & grid infrastructure
  • Recycling & materials recovery

Eligibility depends on both sector classification and the specific products manufactured, meaning many businesses may qualify without realising it.

The application window closes on 30 November 2026, and TCD Energy is encouraging Chamber members to act quickly to avoid missing out.

TCD Energy’s specialists John Devine and Stephen Carroll are already supporting manufacturers across the region with eligibility checks, evidence preparation and full application guidance.

Knowsley Chamber members who think they may be eligible, or who want to confirm their position, are encouraged to get in touch:
