Towerhill Community Hub in Kirkby has celebrated the completion of extensive renovation works, marking a new chapter for this much-loved community venue. Formerly known as Towerhill Amateur Boxing Club, the Hub has undergone a year-long improvement programme to expand and modernise its facilities. The transformation was officially unveiled at a celebratory event attended by Knowsley Mayor, Cllr Ken McGlashan, and Mayoress Anne McGlashan.
The upgraded facilities now include:
- A meeting and training room offering modern, flexible spaces for workshops, courses, and community gatherings
- Large offices with Wi-Fi
- A state-of-the-art gym
- A wellbeing hub designed to support mental and physical health
- Sauna and cold-water therapy bath
- A fully equipped catering kitchen
- Secure off-road parking
Carl Melia from Towerhill Community Hub said:
“We are delighted with the improvements which have transformed our centre and mean that even more young people, as well as the wider community, will be able to get involved with the activities and services we’re able to offer at the hub. We hope our enhanced offer will help reduce anti-social behaviour and improve inclusion and employability among local young people.”
The transformation was made possible through £1.6 million secured from the Government’s Youth Investment Fund in partnership with Knowsley Council and One Knowsley. The investment has enabled an extension and full refurbishment of the site to support an expanded youth programme.
Towerhill Community Hub now operates the site following a Community Asset Transfer from Knowsley Council and has also secured support from the Football Foundation Playzone Fund to deliver a new multi-use games area.
