Resource Centre & Knowsley Chamber Working Well Collaboration

The Deafness Resource Centre is dedicated to empowering, supporting, and enhancing the quality of life for D/deaf individuals. Originally established in 1928 as the St Helens and District Society for Deaf People by a group of missionaries, the organization began as a grassroots initiative to aid the D/deaf community. Over the decades, the charity has evolved, and in 2009 it became a registered incorporated charity, renaming itself the Deafness Resource Centre Ltd.

Today, the Centre provides a range of services across the Boroughs of St Helens, Halton, and Knowsley. Their Children, Young People, and Families service extends throughout the Merseyside region, while their Communication Service spans the entire North West of England. The Deafness Resource Centre works closely with partners such as St Helens Council, Halton Council, NHS England, St Helens & Knowsley Hospital Trust, and Warrington & Halton Hospital Trust, among others. Through service contracts with local councils, they provide statutory assessments, information, prevention, and early intervention support.

At the Deafness Resource Centre, D/deaf individuals, their carers, and families receive vital services, including guidance on how to make local services more accessible. The Centre is funded through a combination of service contracts, income generation, donations, and grants.

Knowsley Chamber & Deafness Resource Centre: A Partnership for Change

Knowsley Chamber is thrilled to collaborate with the Deafness Resource Centre in offering an exciting training opportunity designed to improve communication and deepen understanding of the challenges faced by D/deaf individuals.

This four-hour, interactive training course will be facilitated by Fiona Robertson, who will be supported by two British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters to ensure accessibility for all attendees. The course has received outstanding feedback from past participants, both individuals and organisations, who have found it invaluable in raising awareness and equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to support D/deaf people effectively.

The training will begin promptly at 9:00 am, with registration available from 8:30 am. We encourage all participants to arrive early to ensure a smooth start to the session.

Join us in this important initiative to create a more inclusive and accessible environment for D/deaf individuals in our community.
