Chamber members Made to be MUM community play café in Kirkby has launched an appeal to local residents and businesses as it faces a significant challenge in providing a warm and welcoming environment for families.

Made to Be Mum, founded and run by Samantha Clair was created in 2025 as a dedicated space where parents can sit, talk, breathe, and find support during some of the most demanding stages of family life. The café has quickly become an essential hub for many local families, offering a safe and comforting place to connect and combat isolation.

However, the not‑for‑profit project is now facing a considerable funding hurdle. The venue currently has no permanent heating system, and a recent installation quote came back at £10,000 , a cost far beyond the organisation’s means.

To bridge the gap, Made to Be Mum has launched a community raffle and is reaching out to local businesses for support. The team is appealing for prize donations, which could include vouchers, products, services, or contributions of any size. All donors will receive public recognition across the café’s social media channels in thanks for their support.

Speaking about the appeal, Sam said the response so far has been encouraging, but more help is urgently needed to ensure the space can remain warm and accessible throughout the colder months. “This café was built with so much love and intention,” she said. “It has become a lifeline for families who need somewhere to go, and we want to keep the doors open – and the space warm.”

In addition to the raffle, those who prefer to contribute directly can donate via the project’s GoFundMe page:

Made to Be Mum continues to welcome messages from businesses and individuals who wish to get involved. All support, whether through donations, sharing the appeal, or taking part in the raffle, will help secure the future of a much‑needed community asset in the heart of Kirkby.
