Vibe supporting young people during Eurovision

Liverpool City Council have partnered with youth charity Vibe to ensure support for young people during Eurovision. Vibe (formally Knowsley Youth Mutual) are thrilled to be a part of Eurovision and bring their work in Knowsley to the global stage.

The team of expert youth workers will focus on themes including mental health, substance misuse, sexual health and anti-social behaviour, signposting fun and safe diversionary activities and handing out 600 anti-spiking kits during the festivities.

Since the announcement last October that the city will be hosting the 67th Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine, the excitement has been building and there are hopes that there will be around 100,000 visitors to the city enjoying the huge celebrations taking place throughout various venues in the city centre.

Vibe youth workers will be on hand to keep young people safe and away from problems that may occur. A hub will be set up from the 5th-13th of May in the Eurovision Village, and there will be satellite teams covering the area outside of the Eurovision village, to engage young people who have been turned away from the event or cannot gain access to the site due to capacity.

Paul Oginsky, Chief Executive Officer of Vibe, said: “Eurovision is a huge opportunity for the people of Merseyside and we are proud that Vibe has been appointed to ensure young people are safe and can enjoy the occasion to the full.”

Charlotte Brookes, Operations Manager at Vibe, added: ‘Our team of Youth Workers will be around the Eurovision Village to support and signpost young people to any services they may require the support of throughout the festival, our team are looking forward to meeting young people visiting Liverpool from all over the world, and bringing a message of hope to young people from Ukraine through message of Hope tree at our Vibe Youth Hub’
